PRESS RELEASE

New show of paintings at The Academy of Music

The Academy of Music is pleased to announce a new show of paintings on view at the Academy through June 2008.

The paintings are in various media—watercolor, acrylic, oil, and collage—and include landscapes, still lifes, and florals. The artists for the show are Sandra Cepaitis, Cathy Hirsh, and Elizabeth Stecher. All are experienced artists who have shown widely in the metropolitan Washington area, have had works accepted for very competitive juried shows, and have sold works for private collections throughout the country. Ms. Hirsh recently had a very successful solo show, “Personal Views,” at the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo Park. Ms. Stecher had two paintings in the December 2007 International Miniature Show at the Strathmore Mansion and currently has a painting in the Strathmore Member’s Show—both very competitive venues. All three were participants in a recent group show at the Ratner Museum in Bethesda. More information about the work of Ms. Hirsh and Ms. Cepaitis can be found at www.hirshstudio.com and www.wmartists.com.

“Having wonderful paintings such as these to decorate our Academy makes such a difference for our students and their parents,” observes Howard Hanson. “We have over 550 students and with our classes and monthly recitals, many will have a chance to enjoy them.”

The Academy also welcomes the public to view the paintings as well. Academy hours are Monday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Academy is located at 8451 Helgerman Court, just off of Shady Grove Road near the border of Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The Academy specializes in childhood music programs and offers both group and private classes through its carefully chosen faculty. Classes in early childhood music for students beginning as young as 18 months as well as Suzuki, Chamber Music, and Theory and Musicianship programs are available. More information can be found at www.theacademyofmusic.com.

Mastery of an instrument and deep understanding of great art are priceless.
We dedicate ourselves to giving our students
“. . .the joy and exhilaration of knowing a deep thing well”.
