Florals on Parade
Florals on Parade, watercolor on paper, 15” x 22”, matted 21” x 28”
I paint because I find it fun and challenging. I work in multiple media--watercolor, oil, acrylic, and gouache—depending on the subject and the visual impact I want. I paint on location en plein air, paint subjects like florals, still lifes, or models directly in the studio, and sometimes use photographs for inspiration and subject matter. Always I use my imagination.

When I’m in “the groove,” my painting seems almost magical, the picture seeming to paint itself—what a feeling! The shapes and colors I see and the colors and textures of the paint as a painting unfolds give life to my ideas.

And of course there is the wonderful camaraderie among fellow artists—a wonderful community.

But there are challenges as well: struggles over difficult subject matter, new techniques and media, and even more mundane things like dealing with the heat, cold, or bugs.

Regardless, I find painting a joy, and I hope that is clear in my work.
